A supermarket built with a future dismantling in mind
A supermarket that opened in Braunschweig-Lamme in May 2025 uses mechanically joined wooden blocks in load-bearing walls. People can buy groceries in a building that puts the system to work at commercial scale.
DE GermanyIn practice. The Braunschweig-Lamme supermarket opened in May 2025 with TRIQBRIQ timber blocks in its load-bearing walls.
What to keep in view
The operating supermarket shows that the wall system can be built at this scale. Future recovery of the blocks has yet to be demonstrated at this site.
What it would take to dismantle a wall
A mechanical joint changes what a builder might do when the wall reaches the end of its service. If the connections can be reached and the pieces remain in suitable condition, individual blocks may have a route back into use. That prospect gives the project team a reason to document the assembly while it is still being built.
Opening the store demonstrates construction and use. Recovering the blocks and installing them again would be the next test of the system.
