Turn straw into a building system.
EcoCocon turns straw into a manufactured wall component that architects and builders can specify with a defined assembly. Controlled factory production makes an available local material a more repeatable construction choice.
SK SlovakiaIn practice. The maker dates its Voderady factory to September 2024; the panel system also appears in the completed Feldballe School extension.
What to keep in view
The factory's large-span structure uses BauBuche rather than unsupported straw panels. Fire resistance and moisture management depend on the specified wall layers and project conditions. Biogenic carbon stored in a panel does not by itself prove a carbon-negative building.
Turn straw into a specified wall panel
EcoCocon dates completion of its Voderady factory to September 2024. Robotic workstations produce timber-framed straw panels for project-specific dimensions. The hall itself uses these wall panels alongside a separate BauBuche structure for its large spans. Henning Larsen also documents the panel system in the completed Feldballe School extension in Denmark.
An abundant material is not automatically something a project team can confidently order and build with. Predictable components, connection details and tested wall assemblies reduce what each project must solve afresh. The factory turns that supporting knowledge into a production route. The wall's performance still depends on the full assembly, not on straw alone.
Make the assembly repeatable
Make a material easier to specify and assemble, not merely easier to admire as an alternative.
