A room for one. A train for many.
An overnight train gives solo travellers a lockable private sleeping space without requiring them to buy an entire compartment.
AT AustriaIn practice. Individual sleeping units are built into the couchette cars of ÖBB’s new-generation overnight trains.
What to keep in view
A compact berth requires climbing or bending and cannot serve every body. The private sleeping unit also depends on shared toilets, corridor capacity, staff response and reliable overnight operations.
A private sleeping space within the train
The Nightjet Mini Cabin is a single sleeping berth inside the couchette car of ÖBB's new-generation overnight trains. Each compact cabin has a folding breakfast table, mirror, reading light, storage and adjacent lockers for hand luggage and shoes.
Traditional overnight rail often forces a solo traveller to choose between a seat, a shared compartment or the price of a whole private room. The Mini Cabin creates a fourth category by selling privacy at the scale of one horizontal berth.
Privacy without a whole compartment
Privacy stopped being bundled only with room-scale space. ÖBB divided the carriage into individually bookable rest units while keeping toilets, circulation, service and larger luggage spaces shared.
