Build the battery from the cell outwards.
A battery pack is not simply a box of chemistry. The dimensions and arrangement of its cells affect the space, connections and structure needed around them.
RS SerbiaIn practice. ElevenEs opened its initial LFP cell-production facility in Subotica in 2023. Its EDGE programme develops prismatic cells for vehicles and stationary storage; larger factory ambitions are separate from that opening.
What to keep in view
This entry does not treat announced factory capacity as installed production or repeat broad lifetime and footprint comparisons as independently established results.
Connect chemistry with physical architecture
The lithium iron phosphate cathode avoids the nickel and cobalt used in some other lithium-ion chemistries. ElevenEs combines that chemistry with an elongated prismatic format designed for cell-to-pack integration.
The physical proposal is to use the cell’s geometry to simplify the surrounding pack architecture. That is a different question from claiming the highest energy density at the level of an individual cell. Materials, thermal management and the complete pack still have to work together.
Treat manufacturing as part of the innovation
The Subotica facility brings the work into a real production setting. EIT InnoEnergy documented its opening in April 2023, while subsequent company material describes products and plans for further industrial expansion.
Those stages should remain distinct. A development facility, a validated cell and a gigafactory are not interchangeable milestones. The Serbian example is valuable because it connects product geometry with the difficult task of building manufacturing knowledge in Europe.
