A factory run as a neighbourhood resource
An industrial passage at Can Batlló still reads as part of a factory, but people can use it to reach neighbourhood activities. The wider project brings workshops, a library and other shared resources into former production buildings in La Bordeta.
ES SpainIn practice. Can Batlló puts a former Barcelona textile complex to work through community-run spaces.
What to keep in view
Can Batlló covers several initiatives. La Borda is a distinct housing cooperative on the same site.
A building becomes a way to organise services
Neighbourhood groups shaped the use of the site and do much of the work of running its spaces. Shared rooms make it possible to pool equipment and programme activities that would be harder to sustain independently. Decisions about who can use a space and who takes care of it are central to the model.
