The route a bottle takes after the shop
At a Mega Image on Strada Biruinței, a green machine takes back eligible bottles and cans. It is one of Romania’s return points for a deposit paid at the till and recovered when the empty container comes back.
RO RomaniaIn practice. RetuRO’s system adds a deposit of 0.50 lei to eligible drinks packaging. Shops can collect containers through a machine or at a staffed return point.
What to keep in view
The photograph shows one retail return point. The scheme also allows manual collection, and packaging must meet the programme’s eligibility rules.
At the return point
Look for the deposit mark and bring the container back empty, with its label legible. At an automated point the machine checks eligibility. The deposit can come back as a voucher that the customer can spend or redeem with the retailer operating the machine.
After the shop
The retailer hands the collected containers over to RetuRO. Regional centres count and sort the material before it goes to recyclers. The machine is the part the customer sees. The return network also depends on how often stores can clear their collected containers and how far customers have to go to return them.
