Yesterday’s billboard becomes a bag
The most useful part of an advertising banner may be a patch of colour that made little sense on a billboard. At remesh, workers cut those patches to patterns and sew them into bags. The resulting print depends on where the pieces fell on the original banner.
RO RomaniaIn practice. Ateliere Fără Frontiere cleans and cuts discarded advertising banners into sewn products in an employment-integration workshop.
What to keep in view
Banner materials vary in composition and condition. Reuse in a bag does not establish a future recycling route.
Cutting around the old print
The Bucharest workshop is part of Ateliere Fără Frontiere’s employment integration work. A client can supply former campaign material and commission a run of objects from it. The workshop still has to choose clean, usable areas and find a way around damaged edges and seams.
