Give paper the protective shape of a bubble.
Embossed paper forms protective bubbles without conventional plastic film.
DE GermanyIn practice. Papair began production in 2023; the German maker offers formed-paper cushioning in several packaging formats.
What to keep in view
The 2026 expansion is not the invention date. Paper composition alone does not establish lower lifecycle impact or equivalent protection for every shipment. Coated and uncoated product variants require separate disposal specifications.
Protection through geometry
Papair manufactures PapairWrap, a paper cushioning material formed into a repeated bubble structure. Production began in 2023. The maker’s range includes rolls, sheets and mailing formats, with a further capacity expansion reported in September 2026.
Geometry gives a familiar fibre material a protective role usually associated with plastic bubble film. Manufacturing the shape and specifying its performance become part of the packaging proposition.
Material substitution still has a job to do
Our reading: changing packaging material works only if the item still arrives intact. A production route for paper cushioning makes that comparison practical. Protection, material quantity, handling and recovery all belong in the assessment.
Preserve the useful function when changing the material that supplies it.
