Choose it with your hands.
A picture can show a surface. A sample lets you turn it, feel its weight and hold it beside something else before deciding what to make.

What to keep in view
MATER’s pages give differing collection counts and access descriptions. Confirm appointments and current terms directly; this story does not rely on a sample-count or environmental-performance claim.
Bring the decision into your hands
MATER’s published description lists more than 3,000 physical samples in a Bucharest materials library, alongside space for events and work. Its collection spans categories including timber, metal, textiles, ceramics and composites.
For someone choosing a finish or developing an object, the value is comparison at close range. A material that looks convincing alone may feel quite different beside a second sample. A shared collection makes that conversation possible without every small practice building its own library.

A resource, not a promise of open access
The Romanian Design Council lists MATER at Splaiul Unirii 160 and describes membership and conference facilities. Consult the library before a visit: published membership details and catalogue availability need confirmation.
The online page itself mixes catalogue categories with an ‘Online Soon’ notice. We therefore do not present the database as a fully available public service. The physical collection is the central example here; contact the team about the resources you actually need.
Contact MATER before travelling to confirm visiting, membership and catalogue access. The Design Council’s listing provides the address and contact details.
