Give an empty square a temporary centre.
A transportable circular structure combines seating, overhead shade and lighting to activate an underused urban space.
CZ CzechiaIn practice. KOGAA’s Czech-designed mobile pavilion combines an inflatable ring, seating and lighting, produced with Kubíček.
What to keep in view
The pavilion needs anchoring, inflation power, installation and suitable weather. A temporary installation does not establish lasting social or environmental benefits without observing how people use it.
A light structure changes how a place is used
KOGAA's Air Square is a relocatable public-space structure that combines a lightweight overhead element with a place for gathering and activity. The architect's 2022 project account documents its temporary spatial role. It offers a way to establish a recognisable shared place without beginning with a permanent building. Its use still depends on anchoring, weather limits, equipment and the organisation of the activities below it.
A reusable kit supplies several ingredients of a public gathering place without immediately committing to permanent construction.
Make a trial reversible
Our reading: a location may need a reason to gather before a permanent development can be justified. A transportable structure makes that stage tangible and revisable. The useful intervention is the complete hosted place, including what happens there and who remains responsible when conditions change.
