Find a useful surface above the roof’s slope.
A timber platform makes new use of an existing sloping Paris roof.
FR FranceIn practice. A timber-platform pilot at the Académie du Climat, delivered in 2024 and developed with an experimental monitoring protocol.
What to keep in view
This is a pilot, not proof that every roof is suitable or a quantified city-wide cooling result. Structure, access, fire and maintenance need site assessment.
Work with the inherited roof
Roofscapes built a timber platform over a sloped roof at Paris's Académie du Climat. The pilot creates space for planting and outdoor use while working above the existing roof geometry. Its landscape contractor records delivery in 2024.
A new usable surface is supported above the inherited slope. The design tests another use for a part of the city that is difficult to occupy.
A real test at one address
Our reading: dense cities have existing surfaces whose geometry limits access. This pilot makes one such possibility visible through an actual structure. It remains a site-specific demonstration, with structure, access, fire safety, water and maintenance determining where the approach could work elsewhere.
Look for a usable layer within the city that already exists.
