Recover the heat before the water leaves.
Warm water runs towards the drain while cold water arrives for the next moment of the same shower. Joulia places a heat exchanger where those two flows can help each other.

In practice. A Swiss shower-drain heat exchanger that transfers warmth from outgoing water to the incoming cold supply.
What to keep in view
Wastewater and fresh water remain separate. Recovery depends on flow, temperatures and installation; product efficiency figures are not a guaranteed reduction in every household’s bill.
Two streams that arrive at the same time
Joulia recovers warmth from shower wastewater before it leaves the building’s useful plumbing circuit. The incoming cold supply passes through a separate heat-exchange path before reaching the shower mixer. Heat moves between the flows; the water itself does not mix.
This is preheating, not a replacement for the hot-water supply. The mixer still combines water to produce the shower temperature. The opportunity exists because outgoing warmth and an incoming need occur together.
A CLOSER LOOKWhere the heat goes
Keep the heat. Separate the water.
The drain becomes working equipment
The manufacturer positions Twinline as its more robust line for higher use or demanding applications. Across the range, different numbers of copper pipes provide different heat-exchange areas and space requirements.
That makes installation and cleaning access part of the design decision. The useful object is not only the visible drain cover: it is the connection between the drain, incoming supply and shower mixer.
Recovery is not the same as a household saving
Our reading: the appeal is recovery inside an existing routine, without a separate action for the person showering. But a product efficiency figure cannot be read directly as a reduction in a household’s bill. Flow, temperatures, installation and actual use determine what the building gains.
