A place to make, with people nearby.
Temporary space can still feel rooted. At SODAS 2123, visiting makers join a creative community that is already there.
LT LithuaniaIn practice. SODAS 2123’s residency programme began in 2021 within its cultural complex in Vilnius.
What to keep in view
Residency places depend on calls and arrangements. Studios and accommodation are not freely accessible; consult the public programme for visits.
Arrive inside an existing conversation
The residency sits among artists’ studios, rehearsal rooms, cultural organisations, workshops and exhibition spaces. Its value is not only a room in which to work: it is proximity to other people’s practices.
Shared kitchens and communal areas make informal encounters possible. The programme invites artists, curators, designers, architects and researchers, allowing different kinds of work to overlap.
Give materials another role
Architects Ona Lozuraitytė and Petras Išora arranged the residency rooms using a deliberately resourceful approach. Leftover exhibition materials and reused objects became part of the interiors.
That makes the space itself an example of the culture it supports: making something useful from what is already available, without requiring every surface to look new.
