A bicycle frame finds its balance as furniture
Cara Campos takes discarded bicycle frames as the starting point for a collection of furniture. A familiar tube and joint can still be recognised in a chair or table. The proportions of a frame determine what can be supported and where a new connection has to go.
IE IrelandIn practice. Cara Campos preserves the geometry of discarded bicycle parts in a chair, table and lamp.
What to keep in view
The photograph documents a graduate collection. Check with the designer for availability.
Letting the frame keep its shape
A used frame comes with angles that were originally chosen for riding. Keeping those angles visible makes the design problem clear: a part with an old geometry has to carry a load in a new direction. The collection documents the designer’s approach, without implying that it is in mass production.
