The steelworks becomes a place to think.
Books, daylight and places to study now occupy a structure once tied to steel production. The old frame remains part of how the room feels.

What to keep in view
Public entry, study-space use and borrowing privileges are separate matters. Check the university library’s access and registration conditions.
Keep the scale, change the purpose
Valentiny HVP’s design places new library spaces inside the retained steel framework. Open floors and different working settings replace the former industrial process with reading, study and collaboration.
The building remains in conversation with the nearby blast furnaces. Its large structure makes the change of use tangible rather than turning industrial history into a small display in the entrance.
Let the façade do two jobs
Patterned glazing gives the exterior its distinctive appearance while controlling incoming light. The university describes the pattern as inspired by deposits on the old factory windows.
It is an unusually direct link between history and present use: a trace of production becomes a way to shape the light in a place for learning.
