Treat the weed, rather than the whole field.
An autonomous field robot places tiny herbicide droplets on individual weeds.
NO NorwayIn practice. A Norwegian autonomous field robot launched in 2021, with later model documentation and crop trials.
What to keep in view
The robot applies herbicide; it is not chemical-free. Manufacturer reduction claims depend on crops, weed pressure, detection and the comparison method.
Make detection change the treatment
Kilter AX-1 uses autonomous field operation and targeted microdroplet treatment to address detected weeds. The maker dates its launch to 2021, separately from the later 2025 model operating manual. Kilter specifies a 6 × 6 mm treatment area. The machine applies herbicide, not a chemical-free treatment.
From broad treatment coverage to small, identified weed-treatment locations.
Measure the whole field result
Our reading: a whole field does not necessarily need the same intervention. AX-1 makes the treatment decision much smaller than the crop-production area. The revealing logic is precision of action: identifying where a treatment is needed can matter as much as developing a different treatment.
