A library card opens a workshop
Someone can read about sewing or digital fabrication on one floor of a library and work with tools in another part of it. Folkeverkstedet at Deichman Bjørvika makes equipment available to people who would have little reason to buy it for a single project.
NO NorwayIn practice. Oslo’s Deichman Bjørvika brings tools and making space into a public library.
What to keep in view
Commercial production is excluded. Check age, material fees, booking and training requirements for the tool.
Access is organised one booking at a time
The workshop publishes booking and use rules for equipment, including different kinds of making. These rules give staff and visitors a way to share limited machines safely. The library’s contribution is the combination of equipment, space and the organisation that makes access possible.
